Author's Notes: July 30th 2014 prompt: The theatre
I returned from my afternoon constitutional to find my fellow-lodger, Mr Sherlock Holmes, in a rare ebullient mood.
‘Dust off your dinner jacket, Watson. I have tickets for tonight at The Imperial,’ he said, donning his waistcoat.
Ah, the theatre! As a student even the humblest London performances had been beyond my wallet. Even now, such opportunities were rare unless Holmes’ benefactor chose to gift him with his box. I hastened to change my clothes.
‘What is playing?’ I asked while adjusting my bow tie.
‘It hardly matters. To me, the audience is more fascinating than whatever transpires on stage.’
