Roy, Professor Presbury’s wolf-hound, adopted by Dr Watson at the end of all that monkey business, raised his shaggy eyebrows to his new master.

It had been busy day for Master and after his customary brandy and newspaper, he had fallen asleep in his armchair not hearing the frantic knocking at the door.

‘Wuff?’

Master slumbered on.

Wrroof!’

It was no use. Stronger measures were required. Roy checked his nose: it was sufficiently wet and cold… and there was Master’s exposed neck…

Master woke immediately, heard the knocking, and answered the door.

‘Come, Roy,’ Master held the leash, ‘We’re needed.’

Awww, good boy Roy!

I know it is a bit sappy to write about Watson adopting Roy but I can see it without too much stretch of the imagination.
(Thanks!)

Yes, of course! With a wet and startlingly cold nose!
(Thanks!)

Oh, one of my favorite dogs. And Watson got him. Fabulous. Success at 'cute'

Sight-hounds are incredibly loyal. Roy and Watson are a good fit.
(Thanks!)

Thanks for a very satisfactory drabble, with both Watson and Roy happy about it.

Well reasoned, Roy.

At your service; re-homing sight-hounds since 1902!
(Thanks!)

Quite taken with Roy's nose check prior to action:-p

A good soldier checks his weapons... A good workman checks his tools...

Whew. For a second I thought Master was napping permanently. Good use of a dog's nose!

Totally not written from experience. Nope. Nothing to see here.
(Thanks!)
