Inspector Lestrade’s pistol clicked as he closed the cylinder. ‘I’m to stay near the flower-seller with my darling wife.’

‘I’ll darling you, Mr Lestrade,’ glared Mrs Hudson. ‘I don’t know how I got talked into this.’

‘Watson, you’ll be stationed near the end of the platform—‘

‘—Yes, Holmes; watching for anyone approaching our client.’

‘Exactly. Now, Wiggins, you will stand in for the broadsheet boy. Keep an eye on Watson.’

‘Yessir, Mr Holmes.’

‘And Toby, be ready for anything.’

‘Wrrruff!’
