‘There’s a difference between a gamble and a risk. Ask any soldier if by going to war he is gambling with his life, or undertaking a great risk. To the man, they will respond with the latter. A few shillings won or lost on the caprices of cards or dice, or even a fine horse do not have the implications that real risk dictates.’
‘Save your breath, Doctor. I am well aware of the semantics and you’ve already cheated me out of my latest commission. So forgive me if I don’t want to play anymore.’
‘Best three out of five?’
