  July 14th writing prompt

London
1884

Dr Watson was limping again. It was barely noticeable at first, but as winter approached and the wind became colder, the limp and the doctor’s mood worsened.

Sherlock Holmes observed his friend, thinking of ways to lend assistance. If there were pain-relievers, the doctor was certainly already aware of them. If Watson should revert to using his cane, Holmes dared not tell him so. Giving up casework was unthinkable; the doctor’s pride would never tolerate that.

Holmes would say nothing, shortening his stride ever so slightly.

Sometimes, in order to help, the best thing was to do nothing at all.

.oOOo.

I like this very much. Very true to the Victorian repressed-gentleman aspect of Holmes' character. Nice!

Thank you for your lovely compliments!

Awww, I like this. It's so subtle, but SO Holmes.

I'm glad you liked it! It's gratifying to see that this Holmes rings true.

*nod* It isn't easy being Victorian!

I am certain that our good doc noticed. But as always, took it in in stride. Sorry, could not resist the pun.
Lovely, as always.

The only good pun is a bad pun!
Watson probably noticed, but would Holmes admit to being thoughtful?
Thanks for your support!

I would say this is a success, my friend. :-)

Thank you very much!
And your icon... BWAHAHAHA!

Kinda sad that it's taken decades of awesome Watsons (Colin Blakely, James Mason, Robert Duvall, Ian Harte, Vitaly Solomin, David Burke/Edward Hardwicke, Jude Law, Martin Freeman) to counteract the indelible public image of Nigel Bruce's buffoonish Boswell.

Holmes, your humanity is showing! :)

[identity profile] capt-facepalm.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Please don't tell him that! Just because Watson is not embarrassed to show compassion, does not mean that Holmes has none. Now, he'll be condescending and acerbic for days in order to compensate for letting it show!
