‘Mr Holmes, what were you thinking?’ demanded Inspector Lestrade upon entering the holding cells. ‘You must have known that your presence in that pub would cause a brawl.’
My fellow-lodger stood but, knowing I would collapse, did not leave my side.
‘It was a calculated risk. I needed some information and I was sure you could dismiss the charges.’
Lestrade huffed in indignation. ‘I can, but it would serve you right if I left you here a while longer.’
‘I’m sure you would do that to me, but would you do that to Watson?’
Lestrade cursed and led us out.
