‘Stop pulling your punches, Holmes!’ growled Watson in frustration.

‘I don’t want to hurt you.’ I danced out of his reach.

‘The Slattery boys wouldn’t show me that consideration.’

True. If not for my police whistle, one or both of us would have been killed. Weeks had passed since that disastrous encounter, and once Watson’s ribs knit and his bruises faded to yellow, he insisted that I help him recover his martial prowess. I agreed reluctantly, knowing that I outpaced him in both strength and stamina.

‘I cannot improve if you keep coddling me.’

‘No quarter?’ I asked.

‘None expected.’

Sherlock does not seem the coddling type, unless Watson is involved of course. :)

Well. There's coddling and then there's tempering for the opponent's skill set.

Of course, Watson doesn't see it that way, dear man. :)

Seems prudent to up Watson's fighting skills early this month...he may need them; and is probably counting the days till August...

The coddling will stop once Watson sucker-punches him.
(Heh heh heh!)

Thanks! I'm sure that Holmes will be a patient teacher.
(Probably)

Watson's wartime wounding and subsequent illness rattled his confidence and he has become his own worst critic. He expects more of himself than even Holmes does and this leads to his frustration. Of course, Holmes finds this a bit amusing but is willing to give him the time he needs.

One can certainly picture the scene ;)

Perhaps inspired by the Russian series? ;))

Thanks!
I suppose any reference to Watson and Holmes sparring must be rooted in the epic Lenfilm series.

Pfft, Watson & his legendary stubbornness XD

And what med_cat said, nice nod to the Russian series. I do like the boxing gear & practice round they had :D

I love it when Watson uses his bamf-fu, even in practice.

The art of bamf-fu requires lots of practice.
(And self-control if your fellow lodger is as eccentric as Sherlock Holmes.)

Lovely use of the prompt, and yay for BAMF Watson! I suspect Holmes too will be sporting a yellowing bruise before long.

"No, Lestrade, we were not involved in the Ratcliff Highway brawl. If you had read my monograph on nature of bruises, you would know that ours predate that incident by six or seven days."
