Author:
capt_facepalm
Rating: PG
Fandom: Sherlock Holmes (ACD-Compliant Gaslight)
Characters: Mr Sherlock Holmes, Dr Watson
Summary: The stakes are high
Warnings: (Stolen shamelessly from WS Gilbert (The Mikado), and also Ian Hart's Watson)
Word Count: 100
Author's Notes: July 18th prompt: The Games We Play
The billiard-sharp whom anyone catches
His doom’s extremely hard—
He’s made to dwell
In a dungeon cell
On a spot that’s always barred.
And there he plays extravagant matches
In fitless finger-stalls,
On a cloth untrue
With a twisted cue
And elliptical billiard balls.
Damn Gilbert and his popular little ditties fumed Sherlock Holmes as he surveyed the disgruntled members of the gentlemen’s club.
‘It’s an impossible shot, Watson,’ Holmes murmured ‘Leave your money on the table and maybe we can leave without a thrashing.’
‘No, Holmes, that’s our rent at stake. Besides, the shot’s not impossible, just highly improbable.’

Date: 2015-07-19 10:47 pm (UTC)Either Watson makes the shot and a brawl starts, or Watson swallows his pride and intentionally wiffs. How do you see it playing out?

Date: 2015-07-19 10:50 pm (UTC)Billiards is a game of skill, gambling is a game of chance.
Not to worry. Holmes has determined seven different ways to use a pool cue as a weapon, three for the balls, and two for the chalk.
