‘Come now, Watson,’ said Sherlock Holmes, ‘I have observed you for years. You never act recklessly.’
‘Perhaps not as much anymore but you did not know me in my youth,’ Watson replied. ‘There was the one time, on a dare, I walked into the Greenwich pub favoured by the naval cadets, wearing my Sandhurst dress uniform, and declared to all assembled something to the effect that I had chosen the army over the navy because I wanted to lose my virginity to a woman and not to the bos’n’s mate.’
‘Good heavens! What happened next?’
‘The resulting brawl was epic.’
