Old Professor Neville was renowned for three things: His extreme old age, his ability at chess, and his obsessive compulsions. For example, he could not play chess unless he was in sight of his lucky umbrella. So when it went missing, Sherlock Holmes and I witnessed a tantrum worthy of a three-year old.
The four smirking scholars present at the time of the brolly’s disappearance were searched, as was the Great Hall from whence it had vanished. The windows too, were found secure.
‘When you eliminate the impossible…’ said Holmes eyeing the ceiling.
And there it hung amongst the rafters.
