Sherlock Holmes returned to Sussex with an unsettled mind.

The war in France was not going well. His brother, without going into details, of course, had said as much, thus confirming information Sherlock Holmes had received from other sources. Unlike so many, he did not have any immediate family serving in the army, but he did have one very good friend there, and that friend tended to value the care of others above his own.

So, alone in his cottage, besieged by wind and rain, the retired detective's mind repeated: Was Watson afraid, was he cold, exhausted? Was he safe?

Poo Holmes although I always appreciate a worried Holmes when that worry is over Watson.

Thanks! I try to write Holmes as glib on the surface but actually quite caring at heart, especially once he gets to know Watson. I write Watson not realising this until much later, as his concern and regard for Holmes has been constant since the earliest days.
