‘But Holmes, I truly have no preference amongst the seasons.’
‘Rubbish. Everyone has a favourite. Myself, I prefer spring with its prima vera, the first green, and the birdsong, and the—’
‘Rain?’
‘Yes, even the rain. It cleanses away the winter’s grime. Surely, those must entice you?’
‘In London, the change in seasons matters less than where I grew up, but since you won’t let this go, when I was a child, summer was my favourite. The higher latitude made you swear the sun never set. Of course it rained throughout the year, but at least summer wasn’t dark.’
