‘Lord Peter, do you recognise me?’
A smile brightened the invalid’s face. ‘Why, if it isn’t Dr Watson! I would rather we met under better circumstances.’
‘I hear you were caught in a tunnel collapse.’
‘It was nothing. My faithful sergeant dug me out.’ Watson observed Wimsey’s fingers beginning to twitch.
‘Thank goodness for that.’ Wimsey’s fingers were now drumming.
‘Do you remember consulting Sherlock Holmes?’
‘Of course! I was greatly impressed and wanted to be just like him.’
‘Well, let me tell you about the Case of the Golden Hedgehog. It all started…’
Wimsey relaxed and his fingers stilled.
