By the time Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson stepped down to the platform in Zurich they had been travelling by train for over twenty-four hours. Both men were tired and somewhat dishevelled. At one point, Dr Watson had fallen into a fitful sleep but had woken sore and stiff and no more rested than Mr Holmes who had stayed awake the whole time.

‘I’m sorry, Watson. I should have never taken this case.’

‘Nonsense. If we find the missing Gettinger heir, you’ll rectify a great injustice.’

‘True, but I hadn’t considered the toll returning to Switzerland would take on you.’
