'Watson,' said Sherlock Holmes, 'Despite your estrangement, you were probably closer to your brother than I was to mine.'
I had met Mycroft Holmes and I found him to have a quiet dignity often found (with notable exceptions) in those of great intellect.
'But Holmes, you share many admirable traits. It's hard to believe you did not get along.'
'Ah, Watson. At school, did your brother protect you from bullies?'
'Yes, when it was convenient. You're saying Mycroft didn't?'
'No. He was fat and sweaty and a constant embarrassment to me.'
'Surely that was something he could not help.'

Supplementary Notes:
From The Adventure of the Greek Interpreter, Mycroft Holmes is described thus: "Heavily built and massive, there was a suggestion of uncouth physical inertia in the figure, but above this unwieldy frame there was perched a head so masterful in its brow, so alert in its steel-grey, deep-set eyes, so firm in its lips, and so subtle in its play of expression, that after the first glance one forgot the gross body and remembered only the dominant mind."
