Sherlock Holmes held the front door open for his fellow-lodger who was clearly having trouble managing the few steps. Their slow progress alerted their landlady, Mrs Hudson, to their arrival home.
‘Mr Holmes, Dr Watson! You are just in time for supper. I’ve cooked my special casserole!’
The smell of burning bread wafted from the kitchen. The detective regarded Dr Watson with alarm.
‘Erm, umm…’ said Watson looking at Holmes with equal concern.
‘Drat our timing,’ answered Holmes. ‘We’ve already eaten.’
‘But you poor dears look famished.’
‘Simpsons?’ Holmes asked soto voce once their landlady departed.
‘Yes, please!’ Watson replied.
‘Mr Holmes, Dr Watson! You are just in time for supper. I’ve cooked my special casserole!’
