‘I say, old boy,’ Holmes’ voice resonated in my pain-fogged brain. ‘That tackle was worthy of Bonnie Johnny of Blackheath!’
I struggled to reply.
‘Now then, Watson, you must rouse yourself. We cannot have you lying about when there is a mad bomber sending me gifts.’
A clockwork toy, the dancing bear, the tune it played, the frightful realisation, and the explosion. My memory was returning. I groaned and opened my eyes.
‘Good old Watson! You saved my life. How did you deduce that the contraption was a bomb?’
‘The tune it played was Chopin’s Marche Funèbre,’ I finally said.
