After missing our railway connection, Holmes and I had to overnight in Brussels. Tired and hungry, our hotelier recommended a café nearby. Despite the late hour, convivial yellow light accompanied by an accordion emanated from within, lifting our mood even before entering.
A charming lass took one look at us and directed us towards an available table.
‘I know exactly what you need,’ she told us in slightly accented English and soon returned with a large plate of frites and two lagers.
The creamy, aromatic ambrosia for afters was pure bliss and we raised our cups to our good luck.
