‘It is a lovely specimen, but people do not wear stovepipes that tall anymore… that one is positively Dickensian.’
‘Rubbish! I was assured that this style is in vogue with Society right now. Are you implying that my haberdasher lied to me?’
‘No, you are the very picture of sartorial splendour but I do wonder if he spoke in jest.’
‘He wasn’t pulling my leg, if that is what you are suggesting. Not at the price he charged for the hat.’
