The Forrester’s appreciation for their governess, Miss Morstan, was uncommon for that time.
So intense was their scrutiny that I felt I would never pass muster as a suitor. However, they held Mary in such high regard that they extended their warmth to me.
I had been estranged from my own family long before my brother died. In the year 1891, losing both Holmes and my dear Mary left me feeling like I had lost everyone that ever cared for me.
In that, I was wrong. Mrs Forrester continues to include me in all the family functions to this day.
