After the events I later described as the Adventure of the Creeping Man, I took Roy, Professor Presbury’s wolfhound, back to Kensington, with the plan to rehabilitate his trust in people which had been so badly shaken, and then find him a home with people who would love and cherish him.
This was not an easy task. Nobody wanted a dog that had turned on his owner.
With Holmes ensconced in Sussex, Roy became my constant shadow and confidant, and as time passed, I found I could not bear to part with him. We needed each other.
Welcome home, Roy.

Supplementary Notes: At the time of this writing, my own hound lies snoring on the floor behind my desk. Destined to be a therapy dog due to his sterling character, he was pressed into full-time duty supporting me through the isolation of the pandemic.
