‘Mr Holmes, it’s one of those wretched children. Should I let him in?’ called our landlady from downstairs, her disapproval was palpable.
‘I’ve been expecting him, Mrs Hudson. Send him up.’
Harrumphing sounds crossed paths with nimble scampering in the stairway.
‘Well, Wiggins, report.’
‘You was right, Mr Holmes. There’s been more movement down in Thameside. I was spotted so I legged it.’
‘Another waif to see you, Mr Holmes!’
Freddie appeared at our door.
‘Sorry Sir, I saw nothing. They set a dog on me! But Mickie’s still there. She’s hid real good, and she’s the best we got.’
