At first, Sherlock Holmes was furious. His good friend, Dr Watson, had returned from the trenches of France, and instead of retiring to Sussex, he had taken a position with a military infirmary. When Holmes found out that Watson’s position was not that of a staff surgeon but one of a patient, he was on the next train. His rage alone could have powered the engine.
Still recognisable despite his bandaged eyes, shaved head, and missing moustache, Watson lay in a large ward, quiet except for the clock.

‘Please do.’
