Mycroft Holmes read the dossier’s contents again.

The letter, written with an unsteady hand, promised information on one Major John Watson, presumed dead since the Armistice.

This letter was different. It was signed by Steigler himself from the prison where he awaited sentencing for war crimes. How ironic that he should receive medical care when he was infamous for the ‘liquidation’ of Field Hospital 15... Doctor Watson’s command.

Could this finally be a real lead?

False hope was detrimental. His brother was gaunt as death these days.

Mycroft resealed the dossier. For Sherlock’s sake, he would go to France himself.

I'm sorry that the case fic has been delayed. It's just that the next chapter is very difficult for me to write. (I've tried three different approaches.) The problem is that very bad people want to know where Holmes is and now they have captured Watson. How can this not get ugly? How can I avoid what must happen next? Argh!
