That lazy doctor! Sick is he? Likely saw the rain and hid under his covers. So the missus hauls me out of bed. Orders me to walk that stupid dog. Only he doesn’t want to walk. No, he slips his lead and scarpers. I’ve spent hours, looking everywhere. Now it’s snowing. Better go home and tell them he’s lost.

Blimey, but the Doc looks poorly, wrapped in them blankets! He’s worried I might catch cold and thanks me for walking his dog.

The pup, who returned on his own, hours ago, dares to wags his tail at me?

Cheeky blighter!

Oh, oh this is perfectly cheeky... Thanks! Poor Watson... I am off to the kitchens to help mrs. H make some broth... For both Billy and the doc.

Oh that would be lovely! Nothing better for a chill. Billy will need sustenance before Holmes returns and wants to send out a bunch of telegrams!

(I hope you liked it. I had never given much thought to Billy.)

Well, honestly, I hadn't really considered Billy either. Which is why I wanted something on him. Though I may have thought of him as one of the more promising Irregulars who was glad of a proper job.
:) this was fun. Fun is good. And a real bull pup to boot.

Adorable!
Of course Gladstone didn't want to go for a walk. It was rainy and cold out there! Much better under the covers with the Doctor. After all, a dog's place is by his master's side.

Who knows? Perhaps it was the cold and rain. Or, perhaps it was because he knew his master was not well. Either way, the pup wanted to be with his Boswell.
Thanks for commenting!

I picture Billy, and an unnamed maid, already in service to Mrs Hudson before Holmes and Watson take residence in Baker Street. It would be unusual for someone from the streets to land a good 'indoors' job. Not impossible, though! Especially if you, like me, characterise Mrs Hudson as someone who might take in strays (stray veterans, stray consulting detective weirdos, etc.).

yes, she has a soft heart, she'd take in a stray, especially if her "boys" ( H and W) asked her to, nicely. For several years. Besides, that means she does not always have to answer the door, something she might be glad of as she got older. But she rules 221 Baker Street street with an iron fist- of course you KNEW that...
