William Bradley, upon hearing the jingle of the door bell, set his tea to steep with a sigh. To his delight, one of his favourite customers waited.

‘Mr Holmes, I have been expecting you! I’ve prepared your usual order; one pound of the strongest shag, and half that amount in ‘ship’s.’

‘Thank you, Mr Bradley, but I’ll be switching cigarettes for the ‘ship’s’ this time.’

‘Dr Watson's not better then?’

‘No. Strong tobacco isn’t calming his cough at all. He’s requested something milder temporarily.’

‘Perhaps these would suit?’

Holmes examined a cigarette with his rare expertise, and nodded in approval.

Watson will have to fore go the strong tobacco for a while... perhaps he can substitute medicinal brandy in the meantime!

Very nice.A believable snippet, and a lot said with each sentence. A hint of concern from Holmes, although perhaps bypassing the shop altogether would be a better move for Watson's health:-)

Ah, Victorian medicine! Tobacco was supposed to soothe the ails of the lungs, and Guinness was good for pregnant women. Watson senses something was wrong and switched to a milder tobacco. I'm glad you found this believable!
