Rating: PG
Fandom: Sherlock Holmes (Gaslight)
Characters: Mr Sherlock Holmes, Dr John H. Watson
Summary: The villain got away
Warnings: (No cats were dampened in the making of this drabble)

Author's Notes: July 1st prompt: (A picture of two cats sheltering under an umbrella in the rain)

‘Holmes, you shouldn’t have come back for me. I just slipped on the wet pavement.’

‘You fell.’

‘But you let Farleigh get away. What will you tell Lestrade?’

‘It was a bad fall, Doctor. You did not get up and that I had to see if you were all right.’

‘Wonderful. The inspector already thinks I impede your investigations. And this proves him right.’

‘Lestrade has never been right about anything before, and he certainly isn’t now. But, if makes any difference, I'll tell him I came back because you had the only umbrella.’

‘Now that, I’m sure, he’ll believe.’

.oOOo.

Thanks! Prompt link is HERE

The annual July Writing Prompts have started over at watsons_woes, so if you are into works featuring a beleaguered Dr Watson (all Holmesian incarnations welcome), come on over! It does not have to be hurt/comfort, all Watson-centric stories are welcome in July.

Thanks!

I was quick today. You know... eager-like, but also I have the day off and nothing else to do except cut crop circles into my lawn!

This prompt has me wondering if Mycroft's transmogrification device is still working... (Hint! Hint!)

Awww, I really like this one. Holmes has a few moments when he's almost sweet.

Wow! First off the mark, and it's lovely. Suuuure, Lestrade will believe Holmes about the brolly... ;-)

Thanks! Actually sweet might be too much of a stretch for Holmes, but I do not doubt that he was a good friend to Watson. Of course, that fool of a publicist, Doyle, had all of those moments edited out.

Yes, I was quick today, and thank you!
Holmes, even at his most disparaging, probably knows that Lestrade will not believe the umbrella bit, but at least it made Watson smile.

An Englishman leave his brolly behind? England would fall!

Indeed.
A Holmes leave his Boswell behind?
That's a paddlin' asking for trouble!

But, of course! Umbrellas are very important!

Catching up on the reading after a long week (And only Wednesday). I particularly loved John's parting bit of sarcasm.

Thanks!
Watson uses sarcasm to hide his embarrassment in letting Farleigh get away.
