Author's Notes: July 30th prompt: (Point of view of a minor character who sees something similar between him/herself and Sherlock Holmes.)

The doctor fit Mr Holmes’ description: average height, medium build, late-forties, greying hair and moustache. However, this was no neighbourhood for a gentleman, not even altruistic doctors.

‘You must be Dr Watson,’ I said. He turned, unsure if I was friend or foe.

‘Shinwell Johnson’s my name,’ I eyed his raised walking stick. ‘I’m a friend of Mr Sherlock Holmes.’

‘Erm… Good to meet you, Mr Johnson.’

‘The docklands are bad for a gentleman’s health. Mr Holmes and I were worried about you.’

‘Oh, what concern of yours am I?’

‘I’m as concerned as Mr Holmes pays me to be.’

.oOOo.

I really like this one, Shinwell Johnson does remind one of Holmes in some ways, doesn't he ;)

It fills the prompt very well!

I figure once Holmes was older and less-inclined to theatrics, he hired Johnson to do most of his snooping. If he thought Watson could use a guard-dog, so much the better!

Oh nice! You have brilliantly conveyed the friendship between Holmes and Watson here. Holmes just cant help but watch out for Watson from a distance! Really well done! And hurray for Porky! ;)

Both men are concerned with Watson's well-being, but for different reasons!

Not at all, thank you!
I was so burnt out that I could not think of a minor character.
Thank you for pointing me toward ILLU!

Interesting idea, that Shinwell believes Holmes only cares when he's paid to.

Or Johnson, like Holmes, is hard-pressed to show he cares?
Because emotion has no place in his decision making?

Excellent -- especially the last line.

If Holmes won't admit he cares, why should Johnson admit that Holmes cares?
:-D

If he pays plenty, I'm plenty concerned. If the check bounces, good luck with the Baron.

Good thing Holmes and Kitty Winter showed up when they did, or Watson might have met with some awful misadventure.

He wasn't entirely defenceless, though - "One more step and I drop the Ming saucer!"

Baron's hench-butler and hench-footmen, easily relieve Watson of the priceless saucer. Whump ensues.

Fortunately Dr. Watson brought his dinosaur, who eats force-field dogs! (Wait, wrong game.)

Thanks!
Shinwell (Porky) Johnson is one of my favourite minor characters!
