In the darkness Dr Watson failed to see the blood on the floor. His feet flew out from under him instantly. He reached for the workbench but the rickety thing collapsed on him, trapping him as the shelf overhead slowly shifted; various items sliding inexorably toward him.

Plates shattered.

Bottles burst.

Where had the cobra come from?

Watson woke with a gasp.

The fall had been real. His wrist had been broken. The rest? Either fever or side effects from his fellow-lodger’s apothecary. Four to six weeks, Stamford had said. Watson sighed. It was going to be a long month.

Haha! I was beginning to wonder at the atypical for you overabundance of whump, when I came to the punchline ;)

And I see you couldn't resist joining in the challenge, hee hee :)

Overabundance of whump is atypical for me, you say? Interesting. I must try harder in the future!

Alas for the drabbly word-count restrictions.
I had all manner of increasingly improbable and whump-worthy items lined up to fall on Watson. (Including a cannonball for the finale!)

Oh, you must expand this drabble to a vignette sometime, then! :D

Thanks! I was borrowing from the typical scene where the hero is trying to be stealthy and accidentally stumbles into all the noisiest items imaginable.

Brava! A lovely start to JWP. And leave it to you to whump Watson with a near-Rube Golbergian contraption of hallucinatory objects. ;-) Watson's in for quite a month at your hands, isn't he?

'Tis a miracle for the ages; that Watson can survive July at all!
Who would have guessed that we could all be so sick cruel?

And yes, Holmes needs to be distracted from his new hobby of "Helping Watson heal up".
