Jonas Oldacre was patient in his revenge. His first years in prison were spent plotting the demise of his nemesis, Sherlock Holmes. The consulting detective’s reputation drew fellow prisoners to Oldacre’s cause.

And their input proved most useful. He had not originally considered the importance Holmes placed on the quiet man who accompanied him to Norwood. That would be the key.

Oldacre smiled. His revenge would be conducted so that Holmes would know exactly who was responsible, and just like the murder of the tramp, nobody would be able to prove it.

After all, Princeton Penitentiary was an excellent alibi.

Yes. I'm surprised that ACD did not have more threats against Holmes and Watson.

Poor Oldacre, there's not much else for him to do in prison except plot revenge.

Sic 'em, Gromit!

(It's bizarre, hearing Peter "Wallace" Sallis' voice as Oldacre in the BBC Radio version of NORW.)

After the shock, it really worked for the character - that jovial voice belonging to such a sociopathic monster, still refusing to admit any wrongdoing even as he's hauled away.

Eeeek!!!! Very chilling. Let's hope Oldacre overestimates his own cleverness (again).

Yes, or underestimates Mr Sherlock Holmes' cleverness, or the doctor's unflagging endurance.
