Dear Watson,

I have heard about your recent accident and I insist you come to Surrey to recuperate. As a medical man, you cannot deny the healing properties of our fresh country air.

The grouse are plentiful this year, as are the foxes, and if you are not up to shooting, the riverbank is quiet and that trout of yours is spoiling for a rematch.

Mr Holmes is welcome to join us, and if shotguns and fishing rods are not his cup of tea, I’m sure that the eccentricities of my neighbours will amuse him.

With highest regards,

Hayter
Reigate

I literally snorted a laugh at this line: "Mr Holmes is welcome to join us, and if shotguns and fishing rods are not his cup of tea, I’m sure that the eccentricities of my neighbours will amuse him." Nice one! :-D

I'd kill to see just how eccentric those neighbours turn out to be in comparison to the man who keeps his tobacco in a persian slipper!

Yes, Holmes sets a high bar for eccentricity. No doubt Hayter knows this when he extends his invitation. Plus, he knows that Holmes would want to be around to help Watson recover.

Hayter is AWESOME! (And yowza, he knows our boys well.)

I love Hayter! I envision many visits to Reigate over the years, including The Adventure of the Reigate Squire.

Watson the sporting man! Reminds me of the scene in the Granada "Musgrave Ritual" where Watson proudly shows off his bagged birds to Holmes.

Dammit, now I want Watson to join the Pickwickians on their shooting expedition (even if he's about 80 years too late to do so).

There's also a Granada episode where Watson is fishing, and fishing also appears in SHOS, so I thought it was a good fit!

I love the wording of this, especially the trout being up for a rematch!

Thanks! I wanted Hayter's voice to be lighthearted and welcoming, therefore he reminds Watson of "the one that got away".

I like the idea, and would love to see this vignette expanded sometime; what happens during the visit? :)

This is one of my favourites so far this year!
