Colonel Sebastian Moran’s forbearance made him a successful hunter and tracker.

But even his patience had limits. It had been too long since Mr Sherlock Holmes eluded him in Switzerland and the lack of success rankled Moran's sensitivities. His prey had employed the plover’s trick of luring him away from its nest and by the time Moran had gone back, it was too late. Surrounded by policemen, Dr Watson was no longer alone. In Florence Holmes’ trail went cold. Angered by the frustrating chase, Moran decided on different tactic.

He would return to London where he knew the doctor lived.

Oooh, nice one - and a great interpretation of Holmes luring Moran away from Watson.

Moran - a very good subject for the prompt. (I nearly did a Moran one myself.)

Thanks! For me it had to be Moran or Mycroft. Neither Holmes nor Watson strike me as particularly patient. Sherlock Holmes is much too fidgety, and Watson much too impetuous.
