‘What say you, Watson? Are those marks what they appear to be?’

‘Yes. It is astounding but this foal was taken down by a tiger.’

‘In Dorset? Tigers have been extinct here since… forever!’

‘Sir Thomas wouldn’t have hired you if it was something easily explained.’

‘True... But tigers?’

‘-Or some other large breed of cat. Tigers are what I am familiar with.’

‘Were there other attacks, perhaps on the sheep?’

‘Two gypsy children were mauled but nobody reported it.’

‘Then we’re looking for someone who lived in the tropics and had the means to bring home an exotic pet.’

Lions and tigers, oh my! (Let's hope there aren't any bears in the equation...)

Nope. No bears... just a cheetah and a baboon.

Is it awful is I'm seeing this as a sort of mash-up between SPECKLED and that Monty Python sketch about "a tiger in Africa?!"?

It's not awful at all; it's rather awesome!
SPEC was certainly on my mind when I wrote this one.

A shame that the one man I'd recommend to hunt down a tiger would also happily kill the two of them...
