Title: Colours
Author: [info]capt_facepalm
Rating: PG-13
Fandom: Sherlock Holmes (Gaslight ACD)
Characters: Major John Watson, RAMC
Summary: Major Watson's gas mask failed (WWI)
Warnings: (none)
Word Count: 100
Author's Notes: July 24th 2014 picture prompt: A verdant, overgrown railway track
A bit cheaty due to my first impression of the prompt was the vivid colour green.

.oOOo.

Grey was the last colour Major Watson had seen before his gas mask failed. The sky was grey. The mud was grey. His clothes and skin were grey. The morphine was finally helping; his eyes had stopped burning and his initial anxiety passed, so now, stray thoughts crossed his mind.

Green. He would miss the colour green. Green was the promise of spring… of renewal… of life. If he would remain blind, he would miss green the most.

White. Did white still exist? Was there anything clean left in the world?

Red. No, He would not miss red at all.

.oOOo.

Oh my! With the anniversary of WW1 coming up, this is just so fitting. Actually this story reminds me of the poetry of Wilfred Owen. Not sure if you have read any of his poems? He rams the point home of the futility of war.

Are we likely to see an epilogue of some sort with your drabble? I would love to see how Holmes reacts, and also does Watson get his sight back?!!

Great drabble which I enjoyed a lot. Bravo!

Thank you for your interest. There is more to this story... it has just not been written yet!

Ohh, poor Watson.

And yes, that picture was definitely very green!

Thanks! That picture was astoundingly green. It took me a while to see past the colour to see what it was actually about.

Oh, excellent, and poor Watson! No, I can't imagine that he would miss red, but I think he'd very much mind being totally blinded.

Here's a secret... his blindness is only temporary. He will be better within a month!

Thanks. The Great War was such a disaster. So many lost and wounded. I cannot imagine someone like Watson making it through completely unscathed.
