I closed my book in anger.

‘We’re only trying to help,’ I said which brought about another verbal assault.

‘You should try less. Where have you put my tobacco?’

‘Is it not in the Persian slipper?’

‘Yes. What have you done with it? It’s not on the mantelpiece.’

‘You left it on your desk.’

‘I would never put it there.’

Now, I was certain. My friend’s casual cocaine use had evolved into inevitable addiction.
