Title:  Triage
Author: [info]capt_facepalm
Rating:
PG
Fandom: Sherlock Holmes (Gaslight)
Characters: Medical Officer Captain Watson, Medical Orderly Corporal Murray, 66th Regiment of Foot
Summary: hard choices
Warnings: (none)
Word Count: 100
Author's Notes: July 9th prompt: Healer's Choice. One person Watson chose not to save.

Corporal Murray had been a medical orderly with the Berkshires long enough to know the process of triage: You are not interested in those who are likely to live without aid. Similarly, those beyond help would have to be abandoned. Only those for whom immediate care might make a positive difference in outcome were supposed to matter. Now was not the first time he faced this bitter choice.

‘Leave me,’ his wounded officer ordered in a laboured whisper, ‘That fellow has a much better chance… At least he can walk.’

‘No sir, Captain Watson,’ Murray replied, ‘You’re coming with me.’

Darn right, Murray! (Watson, shut up now, there's a good fellow. ;) )

Poor Watson is in no condition to argue with Murray. He will just have to deal with the survivors' guilt if he makes it out alive.
(Murray is absolutely unapologetic, and that is that.)
Thanks!
