Fandom: Sherlock Holmes (Gaslight)
Characters: Medical Officer Captain Watson, Medical Orderly Corporal Murray, 66th Regiment of Foot
Summary: hard choices
Warnings: (none)
Word Count: 100
Author's Notes: July 9th prompt: Healer's Choice. One person Watson chose not to save.

Corporal Murray had been a medical orderly with the Berkshires long enough to know the process of triage: You are not interested in those who are likely to live without aid. Similarly, those beyond help would have to be abandoned. Only those for whom immediate care might make a positive difference in outcome were supposed to matter. Now was not the first time he faced this bitter choice.

‘Leave me,’ his wounded officer ordered in a laboured whisper, ‘That fellow has a much better chance… At least he can walk.’

‘No sir, Captain Watson,’ Murray replied, ‘You’re coming with me.’

Really, I was left with no other option. Who would Watson choose not to save? Sure, later in life he might face a dilemma where there are too many patients (WWI). And I really did not want to write about Holmes or Mary. So there you have it.
Thanks!
