John Watson's Schooldays
Jul. 13th, 2015 09:49 pmTitle: John Watson's Schooldays
Author:
capt_facepalm
Rating: PG
Fandom: Sherlock Holmes (Gaslight)
Characters: Dr John H. Watson, MD, late of the Army Medical Department
Summary: Watson comes across the first thing he ever wrote as a child. It turns out to be prophetic.
Warnings: (bends the prompt a bit)
Word Count: 100
Author's Notes: July 13th prompt: A Tale Foretold.
Few items of Dr Watson’s childhood survived his transitions from boy to student and then from student to soldier. It was a wonder that this particular sheet of foolscap was found intact. It had been one of several written in his wobbly seven-years-old’s scrawl of the same line repeated.
I must always tell the truth.
Watson cannot recall the offence which raised the schoolmaster’s ire, but he does remember the punishment: receiving the strap in front of his whole class, the fear, the inability to suppress his tears, the humiliation, and being made to write lines with his blistered hand.
