Like his forefathers, Danny had spent his life in the army. The days were long and the food was regular. Still, he could endure the heat and the endless marches as long as he shared the fellowship of his comrades.
Now artillery shells exploded around him. Disoriented, he choked on the smoke and dust. He was alone and all his instincts screamed ‘FLEE!!!’ In which direction?
Suddenly one of his men emerged from the haze needing his help.
Orders were orders. Danny may be only a packhorse, but by Jove, he was a British packhorse and he knew his duty!
