Author:
capt_facepalm
Rating: PG
Fandom: Sherlock Holmes (ACD-Compliant Gaslight)
Characters: Dr John H. Watson, late of the Army Medical Department
Summary: "...be it remembered how objectless was my life, and how little there was to engage my attention. My health forbade me from venturing out unless the weather was exceptionally genial, and I had no friends who would call upon me and break the monotony of my daily existence." [SIGN]
Warnings: (Maiwand)
Word Count: 100
Author's Notes: July 27th prompt: "Aside from you, I have no friends"
The photograph showed six smiling young men in the Candahar encampment with the distant hills in the background. They were officers of the 66th Regiment commemorating an impromptu rugby match.
A mere two months later, all except the junior medical officer were slain at Maiwand.
The sole survivor returned to London to pick up the pieces of his life. However, he had changed. Gone was the spirited youth whose natural charm attracted friends like bees to honey. His doppelganger was pleasant enough in a quiet and unassuming way but forming new friendships was too unbearable for him to even consider.
