‘Of course he didn’t. I could hardly tell him so.’
‘Because he’s so kind-hearted?’
‘Yes, but also because he is very touchy about sharing rooms with deadly diseases.’
‘Deadly…?’ The inspector dropped the rabbit and remembered he had elsewhere to be.
‘Goodness, Lestrade was in a hurry! How are Flopsy and Peter doing?’
‘They’re fine, Watson.’
‘When I offered to mind them for Mrs Hudson’s niece I did not mean to inconvenience you.’
‘They were no bother… and made for useful pest repellent.’
