The first tentacle wrapped itself around Watson’s leg and pulled him to the floor. Watson desparately fumbled for his cane but another tentacle anticipated this and enveloped his chest. Finding a weakness it squeezed his battered shoulder until he cried out. Another one swiftly encircled his throat and began to constrict. His free hand thumped uselessly on the rug as darkness closed in.

Suddenly, Holmes was there, fangs bared and bloody as he tore into the abomination. With a hiss it loosened its stranglehold. A voice called from far away.

‘Watson! Whatever you’re experiencing, it’s not real! You’ve been poisoned!’

Sorry for the Dallas ex machina but I have a strictly self-imposed restriction to drabbles in the canon ACD 'verse. And although I have passing familiarity with some of the other universes listed, they are not my cuppa tea and I did not want to write them. I'm glad this one worked for you. Thanks!
