Aug. 1st, 2016 07:04 pmTitle: WWI Mashup
Author:
capt_facepalm
Rating: PG
Fandom: Sherlock Holmes (Gaslight ACD)
Characters: Surgeon-Major John Watson, a young American soldier
Summary: A wise old doctor
Warnings: (Imaginative prompt bending is not cheating)
Word Count: 100
Author's Notes: July 2016 amnesty prompts: “Genre Shift" (from mystery/crime drama to medical drama) and "What's a Character Like You doing in a Place like 221B?" (Character crossover happens, except not in London).
‘So, Potter, just how old are you?’
Sergeant Sherman Tecumseh Potter, US Cavalry, eyes bandaged due to mustard gas replied automatically, ‘Twenty-one, sir’
The British doctor’s responding laugh was gentle. ‘You might be able to fool a recruiter, but not me.’
‘If I was underage, would you send me home?’
‘Don’t you want to go home?’
‘No, Sir. Hannibal Missouri has nothing for me.’
‘What about your family?’
‘They’ll make do.’
‘Friends?’
‘They are… were… all here with me.’
‘I understand… When your sight returns I will recommend that you be returned to active duty-’
‘Thanks, Doc!’
‘-as a stretcher-bearer.’

Date: 2016-08-13 10:25 pm (UTC)And prompt-bending has become the norm for me considering the self-imposed constraints of ACD-compatible drabbles only.
(Thanks!)
