‘You already had the military. Refusing to kowtow looked like arrogance. Rutherford is now highly placed at Charing Cross and Langstaff is head of surgery at St Thomas’s. Between those two, they can have you blackballed everywhere.’

‘Not the Royal London Hospital; I work there on Thursdays.’
