‘Of course I can read it, Watson, but I do not recognise any of the items.’

‘Now you know how I felt in Paris.’

‘So what if I had to order for you? You said everything was delicious.’

‘Snails, Holmes.’

‘They’re a delicacy.’

‘…and the frogs’ legs.’

‘Those were the spécialité de la maison. Auguste would have been offended had we not tried them.’

‘Well, there are no such surprises here. The only meats Mr Gupta serves are lamb and chicken. Shall we start with the lamb vindaloo?’

Hoo hoo hoo! I got a hint what I was in for with my first vindaloo when the waitress poured me a glass of water - and left the entire pitcher at my table.

Of course Watson would have gotten introduced to subContinental cuisine in the Army.

Next step - one taking the other out for dim sum. "Mm, these clear orange noodles are delicious! What are they?" "Jellyfish."

I think your waitress was being particularly cruel leaving water for you. You need milk to neutralise the spice oils; water just spreads it around. My first taste of curry was "WHERE HAS THIS BEEN ALL MY LIFE???"

Thanks! Actually, I have tried neither frog legs nor escargots although I eat all manner of sea-monsters. (And I love Indian cuisine.)

Haven't tried either one myself, although yes, I also like seafood, and certain Indian dishes ;)

I've actually cooked frog legs. The flavor is very chicken-like but the texture is a bit different, more rubbery. (Then again, I very likely overcooked them.)

I've recently moved and found that I could buy frog legs at my local grocer. Or is that "grosser". I know I should not turn my nose up at something I've never even tried, but...

I just can't see that happening soon. And if it did, I have a curry sauce for just such emergencies. :-)
