‘What you are talking about, Doctor?’

‘Do you think I am blind to your actions? I think you are secretly working on a case that you do not want me to be involved in. Has it to do with someone I know?’

‘Very well. I have received several threats and I am about to go out and spring an ambush.’

‘In that case, you are going to need a pistol,’ Watson said, retrieving his service revolver and retracting it when Holmes reached for it. ‘And someone who knows how to use it.’

I know Doyle had to write Holmes as the hero and good at doing all things, but we all know that Watson would be the better shot. Ritchie was better at showing Watson as being a competent army officer.

I loved the little moment in AGOS when Holmes slaps the rifle into Watson's hands and Watson swings around to fire at the soldiers, both of them with the flawless timing of a trapeze act.

I will be re-watching this movie over the weekend. I too loved that scene. More of that, and less of cross-dressing RDJ Holmes and naked Mycroft next time, please, Mr Ritchie! And bring back The Woman.

(It's not so much the cross-dressing; it's that it was done on a lark for comedic effect. And Holmes cannot ride a horse? I suspect that is because RDJ can't, but Sherlock Holmes certainly should be able to ride. I better stop here or I will come up with too many reasons not to rewatch. Argh.)

Right. And the less said about killing off Irene in the first 10 minutes ("this is a male action film, we need a new chick for Holmes in this movie") the better.
