Sherlock Holmes' expression hardened. Idle gossip concerning Dr Watson always irked him. This time it was some Scotland Yard lackeys. His fellow-lodger had been at his side last week. The murders had been particularly gruesome and no motive could explain the choice of victims. A complete nightmare.

Watson had been deeply affected. Sleep provided no respite. Horrors long-forgotten returned with a vengeance. Twice he had woken the house with screams and now he dreaded falling asleep. Holmes seriously considered 'doctoring' Watson's brandy with something strong enough to put him under for twelve hours. Anything to keep the nightmares at bay.

Poor Watson. Who knows how many of those murder scenes activated his PTSD.
