Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson followed as quickly as they could but the smugglers had disappeared into the landscape.

A closer inspection revealed a cave’s mouth carefully concealed in the underbrush. Watson quickly lit the dark lantern and headed into the maw but Holmes approached with uncharacteristic caution. Watson had continued further into the depths before he realised that the detective was no longer with him.

‘Hurry, Holmes,’ Watson urged. ‘We must catch up to them before they find another exit.’

The detective stood stalk still, wide-eyed and searching amongst the stalactites.

‘Is it a trap?’ asked Watson.

‘No, bats.’

That's ironic, considering that Sherlock Holmes is one of the inspirations for Bob Kane's Dark Knight.

The man in Bat and I go back to the Batusi days.
I had the biggest crush on Robin. Too bad the actor playing him became such a DB IRL.

Hee hee. Younger Bat-fans at a comic convention gaped at me when I told them about meeting Bob Kane in 1988 at a party in the Hollywood Hills, and thanking him for creating Batman. (He'd been very pleased about the then-upcoming Michael Keaton film, for which he was consultant.)
