In the summer of 1885, Sherlock Holmes received a private request to look into some suspicious activity surrounding the opening of the Riksmuseum. I flatter myself to think that I could be of any assistance in matters of fine arts, but my friend and colleague insisted that I join him in Amsterdam.

Our inquiries on behalf of Holmes’ client showed evidence of a plot to steal several important paintings by Early Dutch Masters, but in the end, all ended up at the Grand Opening in their new building. Perhaps the conspirators got wind of Holmes and abandoned their plot.

Ah, the Early Dutch Masters - a very tempting target indeed! And how curious that nothing happened and Holmes and Watson were able to enjoy the exhibition in peace... ;-)

Nice choice. And I've been to that museum! (Sadly, when Vincent's "Sunflowers" was on tour in Tokyo.)

Oooh! Serendipitous finds are the best! Mine was being in Vienna in 2003 during a once-every-60-years exhibit of Albrecht Durer's amazing woodcuts.
