‘What do you want, Lestrade?’ growled Inspector Gregson.
‘I wanted to offer some advice regarding the Chief of Detectives position.’
‘Why? You and I are both competing for that job.’
‘Well, my hat’s in the ring, but I’ll never get it. Didn’t go to the right schools, did I?’
‘Pfft. Your arrest record is better than mine, even if you rely on Sherlock Holmes to do your thinking for you.’
‘I became a copper in order to help people. Holmes helps me do that.’
‘I want to help people too.’
“As Chief, you should take whatever help you can find.’

Supplementary Notes: Headcanon says that Gregson very much dislikes using consultants from outside of Scotland Yard and Lestrade feels the end justifies the means.

Date: 2020-09-24 02:39 pm (UTC)I have seen how interpersonal conflicts can create long-term rifts in the workplace and can imagine Scotland Yard of the 1890's as a very toxic environment.
Thanks!
